Joseph Ian Ross Exhibition: 3rd - 5th November 2023

We are pleased to announce that we are putting on three days of events in the shop to celebrate the life and work of Ian Ross, one of the violin world’s unsung heroes. Events will take place between the 3rd and 5th of November and we would be delighted to see you there!

Ian was an extremely gifted luthier based in Pitlochry who sadly passed away in February, leaving around 65 instruments at various stages of the making process. We were fortunate to be able to acquire the complete collection of these instruments, a project that will keep us busy for a long time…

The first ten violins, violas and cellos are now ready to play. The exhibition will feature these instruments, as well the opportunity to see the unfinished collection.  The details are as follows:

Friday 3rd of November

Instrument exhibition 12-5pm

Open workshop 12-5pm @ 2 Warrender Park Road

Saturday 4th of November

Instrument exhibition 12-5pm

Evening event at 8pm: a chance to hear more about the instruments and to hear them being played. We’re delighted that the brilliant Ryan Young will be joining Tim. Tickets £10, available via Eventbrite.

Sunday 5th of November

Instrument exhibition 12-5pm

Afternoon event at 3pm: session led by the wonderful Kirstie McLanaghan! We are so excited about this event and will be delighted to see anyone who would like to come along. The Ross instruments will be available to play and all are most welcome to do so. This event is free but please do book a ticket via Eventbrite so that we can keep an eye on numbers.

**Update**

Thank very much to everyone who helped to make the Ross Exhibition such a success. We had a wonderful time celebrating such a special person and it was a huge privilege to be able to introduce his work to lots of new admirers, as well as to share stories with those who were already firmly in the Ian fan club!

Below is a video of the three remaining violins available from the Exhibition: plenty more instruments will be finished off soon...
