About Charles Nicolas Bazin

Charles Nicolas Bazin, often referred to as C.N. Bazin, was a distinguished French bow maker whose Mirecourt workshop employed many of the town’s finest craftsmen. He inherited the workshop from his father at just 18 years old and quickly proved to be an excellent businessman, supplying top-quality bows to many Parisian shops.

About the viola bow

This bow was made in Mirecourt around 1900.

The round stick is of excellent-quality pernambuco and the mounts are silver and ebony.

The bow weighs 67 grams and the stick measures 712 mm in length.

How does it play?

This is pretty close to the ideal viola bow! It gives a comfortably substantial feeling in the hand, sits very well on the string and makes a fantastic sound. It's reliable and well-behaved without ever being boring.

The bow is in very good condition.
