About Russell Davis
Based in Hereford, Russell Davis is a former orchestral cellist and pedagogue turned luthier. He is a prolific maker, and his instruments can be found in the hands of many professional players.
About the viola
This viola was made in Hereford in 1997 and is based on a personal model that shows the influence of the Amati family.
The viola has a two piece back of plain maple, with ribs and scroll to match. The front is two pieces of straight-grained spruce and the varnish is amber-red in colour.
The viola has a length of back of 16 and half inches, or 419 mm.
How does it sound?
This instrument sits on the tenor end of the viola spectrum, with a good balance of brightness and response. It's extremely easy to play!
Condition
The viola is in excellent original condition.
