About Neil Kristóf ÉrtzNeil Értz was a Scottish violin maker based in Edinburgh who sadly passed away in 2016. Neil was one of the foremost British luthiers and was widely respected for his making and restoration. His instruments are much prized for their fantastic tone and beauty.
Born in Scotland in 1966, Értz studied the violin and viola at St Mary´s Music School before going on to the Newark School of Violin Making. He then spent years gaining experience in some of Europe´s most respected workshops before setting up his own, firstly in Cambridge and then in Edinburgh from 2009 onwards.
Ertz violins are extremely popular: I´ve probably seen more of these in the hands of musicians than I have any other maker. They are instruments which have a good deal of character, both tonally and visually.
