Violin bow by Marcel Lapierre, Mirecourt, circa 1950
About Marcel Lapierre
Marcel Lapierre was born in Mirecourt in 1907 and served his apprenticeship with the Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy firm from 1921 to 1923. He then worked for a number of distinguished bow makers, including François Lotte, Louis Bazin, Louis Morizot, and Émile Auguste Ouchard.
After a brief period in Geneva working for Pierre Vidoudez, Lapierre returned to Mirecourt to establish his own workshop in 1948.
About the violin bow
This bow was made in Mirecourt around 1950, once Lapierre had returned to the town to set up independently.
The round stick measures 730 mm in length and the mounts are of silver and ebony.
The bow weighs 62.8 grams.
How does it play?
This is a wonderful bow. In the very best sense, it has a satisfying feeling of heft in the hand, whilst not feeling at all overweight. It draws a bright, golden sound, and works off the string enthusiastically and predictably.
Condition
The bow is in very good condition.
Certification
The bow comes with the certificate of Raffin, Le Canu and Bigot.
