About Linus Andersson

Linus is a Swedish/ German violin maker based in Glasgow. He studied at the Newark School of Violin Making, graduating with distinction. Following a period spent in the workshops of several important European makers, Linus now has his own workshop in Glasgow with his partner Stephanie Irvine. We are very pleased to have instruments by both Linus and Stephanie for sale.

About the violin

This violin was made in 2018 and is modelled after the instruments of Stradivari. It has been fully antiqued and shaded, lending the violin the air of a much older instrument. Linus has antiqued the instrument in a very pleasing way, softening the varnish and giving it a delicate craquelure on the back.

The violin has a two piece back of book-matched maple and a two piece front of straight-grained spruce which widens towards the flanks. The varnish is golden brown in colour, laid over a lighter golden ground. The violin has a length of back of 356 mm.

How does it sound?

The violin has a well-balanced sound with a character and a resonance that goes right across the instrument. The instrument projects very well with a light bow stroke, producing a very lovely sound with little work.

Condition

The violin is in original mint condition.
