About Linus Andersson

Linus is a Swedish/ German violin maker based in Glasgow. He studied at the Newark School of Violin Making, graduating with distinction. Following a period spent in the workshops of several important European makers, Linus set up his own workshop in Glasgow with his partner Stephanie Irvine in 2018. We are delighted to have instruments by both Stephanie and Linus for sale.

About Marios Pavlou

Marios is also a graduate of the Newark School of Violin Making.

About the violin

This violin was finished in 2019 and is a collaboration between Linus and Marios. It is modelled after the instruments of Stradivari. I particularly like the marks in the wood which run down the front of the violin: these are reminiscent of the `Archinto´ viola by Stradivari.

The violin has a two piece back of book-matched maple of medium flame which descends gently from the centre joint. The front is two pieces of straight-grained spruce which broadens slightly towards the flanks. The varnish is golden-amber in colour and the length of back of 355 mm.

How does it sound?

The violin has a lovely, mellow tone which doesn´t lack power. It has a singing quality about it that makes playing gorgeous melodies very satisfying. The violin is even across the strings and would make a great partner for someone exploring solo repertoire.

Condition

The violin is in original mint condition.
