About Helen Michetschläger

Helen Michetschläger graduated from the prestigious Newark School of Violinmaking in 1980 and established a career as a highly-respected maker of contemporary instruments. Her research and writing on instrument making mean that she is in much demand as a lecturer on all aspects of luthiery.

About the violin

This violin was made in Ashby de la Zouch in 1991 and is modelled after the instruments of Pietro Guarneri of Mantua.

The violin has a two-piece back of quarter-sawn maple with ribs and scroll to match. The front is two pieces of narrow-grained spruce and the varnish is an unshaded golden-amber in colour.

The violin has a length of back of 354 mm.

How does it sound?

This violin has a pure, clean voice that sounds especially at home in Baroque sonatas. It's characterful and enjoyable to play: a great musical partner!

Condition

The violin is in excellent original condition.
