About Saxon bows

This violin bow was made in Markneukirchen, a small town in the Saxony region of Germany famous for its great number of violin making workshops. The town was home to a great many fine bow making families at this time, including the Knopf and Pfretzschner dynasties.

The town remains active as a centre of violin making today, with over 100 different instrument workshops and a charming museum dedicated to its extraordinary history.

About the violin bow

The round stick is of dense pernambuco and measures 727 mm in length.

The mounts are gold and ebony and the bow weighs 56 grams.

How does it play?

This is a crisp bow that draws out a bright, brilliant sound. It feels velvety and smooth in the hand.

Condition

The bow is in good condition with signs of use. The thumb projection has been slightly altered in the past.
