Violin labelled François Barzoni, Mirecourt, 1884

Violin labelled François Barzoni, Mirecourt, 1884

About François Barzoni

François Barzoni was one of the trade names for instruments made to be sold by the London firm John and Arthur Beare. The instruments were made in both France and Germany and were produced at various grades of quality. The name Beare is synonymous with high quality: most of the world’s top violins have been through the Beare workshop at some point in history!

About the violin

This violin was made in Mirecourt in 1884 and is modelled after the instruments of Stradivari.

The violin has a two piece back of quarter-sawn, book-matched maple with ribs and scroll to match. The front is two pieces of medium-grain spruce and the varnish is the rich reddish-brown characteristic of Mirecourt instruments of the period.

The violin has a length of back of 359 mm.

How does it sound?

This violin has an especially rich lower register, coupled with a sparkling higher end. It projects brilliantly and rings well across the whole range.

Condition

The violin is in very good condition and has recently undergone a restoration to the scroll in our workshop.
