A composite Genoan violin, circa 1770

About the violin

The back, ribs and scroll of this violin are Genoan work from around 1770 and the replacement front is later.

The violin has a one piece back of exceptionally attractive narrow-flamed maple. The ribs and scroll are of plainer maple. The front is two pieces of wide-grained spruce and the varnish is golden-brown in colour.

The violin has a length of back of 359 mm.

How does it sound?

This violin has a striking, unique voice that carries very well. It is on the more vintage end of the spectrum, with a tone that is reminiscent of the recordings of Isaac Stern.

Condition

The violin is in very good restored condition.

Certification

The violin comes with historic paperwork, including a 1971 certificate by Paul Voigt which attributes the back, ribs and scroll to Jacopo Filippo Cordano.
