About Colin Cross

Colin Cross graduated from the Newark School of Violin Making with Distinction in 1989. He is highly respected for his extensive experience in restoration and repair work and his instruments enjoy an excellent reputation among professional players. Having run shops in both Buxton and Deal, we are delighted that Colin has recently moved to Scotland.

About the violin

This violin was made in Colin's Bridge of Dee workshop in 2026 and is modelled after the instruments of Stradivari's Golden Period.

The violin has a two-piece back of quarter-sawn maple with ribs and scroll to match. The front is two pieces of straight-grained spruce and the varnish is a shaded golden-amber in colour.

The violin has a length of back of 357 mm.

How does it sound?

This is a real powerhouse of a violin! It's remarkably even, whilst having a great deal of warmth in the lower register and a sweet, silvery upper register - a combination that's hard to explain but fascinating to explore.

Condition

The violin is in original mint condition.

Certification

The violin comes with the maker's certificate of authenticity.
