Baroque cello by Clive Morris, Neath, 2003

About Clive Morris

Clive Morris is a highly-respected Welsh luthier whose work can be found in the hands of many professional players.

About the cello

This cello was made in Neath in 2003 and is modelled after the instruments of the Venetian maker Domenico Montagnana.

The cello has a two piece back of quarter-sawn maple with ribs and scroll to match. The front is two pieces of medium-grained, book-matched spruce which widens towards the flanks. The varnish is an unshaded amber, laid over a lighter ground.

The cello has a length of back of 731 mm.

How does it sound?

This is a seriously compelling Baroque cello with a characterful voice. The tone is nutty and rich, and the cello sings very beautifully at the bottom of the texture.

Condition

The cello is in excellent original condition.
