Violin by Caroline Campbell, Fife, 2019

About Caroline Campbell

Caroline is a violin maker based in Fife who is extremely passionate about her craft. She trained in Newark-on-Trent and then returned to Fife to set up her own workshop. Her instruments are very popular with musicians for their quality of sound: Caroline is meticulous about every aspect of violin making but most especially about this feature.

We are delighted to have three instruments by Caroline currently for sale.

About the violin

The violin was made in 2019 and is Caroline´s 31st violin, labelled `Speranza´. It is modelled after the instruments of G.B. Guadagnini.

It has a two piece back of moderately-flamed maple, the flame descending from the centre joint. The front is two pieces of medium-grained spruce. The varnish is golden-amber in colour and the length of back is 354 mm.

How does it sound?

This violin is warm and dark with a compelling sound that really draws you in. There´s a slight suggestion of texture in the lower strings, contrasted with an almost oboe-like purity to the upper register. The violin projects very well and is a pleasingly interesting instrument to play.

Condition

The violin is in original mint condition.
