Violin by Caroline Campbell, Fife, 2018

About Caroline Campbell

Caroline is a violin maker based in Fife who is extremely passionate about her craft. She trained in Newark-on-Trent and then returned to Fife to set up her own workshop. Her instruments are very popular with musicians for their quality of sound: Caroline is meticulous about every aspect of violin making but most especially about this feature.

We are delighted to have three instruments by Caroline currently for sale.

About the violin

The violin was made in 2018 and is Caroline´s 30th violin, labelled `Alba´. It is modelled after the instruments of G.B. Guadagnini.

It has a two piece back of very pretty, subtly figured maple. The front is two pieces of medium-grained spruce. The varnish is reddish-amber in colour and the length of back is 354 mm.

How does it sound?

Really good! This is a big sounding violin with great reserves of power and depth. Like Caroline´s 2018 del Gesù model violin, this one has a silky smoothness to the tone but with a boldness to the sound that is pure Guadagnini. Caroline´s infinite patience with finding the best sound from each piece of tonewood is very evident in this instrument.

Condition

The violin is in original mint condition.
