About Calum Thomson
Calum is a talented Edinburgh-based violin maker who is particularly interested in developing his own model for the instrument. An extremely diligent craftsman, Calum´s instruments are consistently great to play although each has a unique character. We expect the value of his instruments to rise as his name becomes more well known: don´t miss the opportunity to purchase one of the early instruments!
Calum is extremely interested in arching and models: it is fascinating to see the similarities and differences between each of his instruments as they are made.
About the violin
This violin was made in Edinburgh in 2022 and is Calum´s personal model. It has a two piece back of delicately-figured maple with the ribs and head of similar wood. The front is two pieces of even-grained spruce and the varnish is brownish-amber in colour.
The violin is not antiqued and has a length of back of 357 mm.
How does it sound?
Rich and powerful with a lot of heart and a very expressive character, this violin packs quite a punch! The G string is particularly warm but with the same excellent projection as the rest of the instrument. The violin rings brilliantly and comes alive with a very light bow.
Condition
The violin is in original mint condition.
