About Charles Nicolas Bazin

Charles Nicolas Bazin, often referred to as C.N. Bazin, was a distinguished French bow maker whose Mirecourt workshop employed many of the town’s finest craftsmen. He inherited the workshop from his father at just 18 years old and quickly proved to be an excellent businessman, supplying top-quality bows to many Parisian shops. His Tubbs model bows are particularly prized, representing some of the finest examples to leave the Bazin workshop.

About the violin bow

The bow was made in Mirecourt around 1880 and is modelled after the bows of the English bow maker James Tubbs.

The stick made of fantastic quality pernambuco and is mounted in excellent quality, jet-black ebony and silver. The bow weighs 59 grams and the round stick measures 729 mm in length.

How does it play?

This bow combines the best qualities of French and English bow making from the period. It offers the supple comfort characteristic of Tubbs bows along with the lively response typical we look for in a really good French bow.

The bow is in excellent condition.
