About Markneukirchen bows
This violin bow was made in Markneukirchen, a small town in the Saxony region of Germany famous for its great number of violin making workshops. The town was home to a great many fine bow making families at this time, including the Knopf and Pfretzschner dynasties.
The town remains active as a centre of violin making today, with over 100 different instrument workshops and a charming museum dedicated to its extraordinary history.
About the violin bow
This bow was made in Markneukirchen around 1880 and is unstamped.
The round stick is of good quality pernambuco and measures 731 mm in length. The mounts are engraved silver and ebony.
The bow weighs 62 grams.
How does it play?
This bow is on the flexible side of things and grips the string very well. It works excellently off the string and would work particularly well to add refinement to a bold instrument.
