Tim Wright Fine Violins: Our Ethos

Personal service

We believe that visiting a violin dealer should be a relaxed affair. We are a friendly family business and we don’t push for custom: if the violin is perfect for you then you won’t need any further persuasion.

Although many people choose to visit us, we often travel to meet clients. This allows us to fit around your busy schedule.

Tim is a former professional violinist who understands what musicians need. His playing background allows him to write instrument descriptions which offer a clear picture of the instrument before trying it yourself: our customers always comment on how accurate these turn out to be. Fair pricing and affordable finance options

Our policy is to seek out instruments which sound far better than their price might suggest. We achieve this by stocking a wider range of instruments than many shops, looking to less-well known makers and schools where the prices have yet to rise.

We also offer a range of contemporary instruments because we believe that a well-chosen new instrument can outplay almost everything older in its price bracket.

We understand that buying an instrument is a significant investment and that our clients need to have every confidence in its resale value. Our commitment to correct attributions and our understanding of the market trends mean that you’ll never pay over the odds.

We offer a range of flexible finance options to ensure that once you’ve found your perfect match you are able to take it home.

Reliable attributions

We are proud of the level of research we undertake on each instrument and really enjoy the chance to discuss our research with clients!

A number of our instruments are offered with dendrochronology reports from world-renowned expert Peter Ratcliff. To provide peace of mind, many of our higher end instruments come with independent certification from the leading authority on the maker or school.

We also offer exhaustive condition reports which will always give an honest account of the instrument and we are happy for you to have the condition independently verified.

About Tim Wright

Having graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2012, Tim has enjoyed performing with some of the UK's best ensembles, including the London Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Northern Sinfonia. Tim's experience as a player convinced him of the need for a musicians' violin dealer, one committed to providing great-sounding instruments through fair and transparent means.

Tim's passion has always been fine string instruments and their bows; following graduation he was able to dedicate his time to honing his expertise. Having worked part time for various leading musical instrument auction houses (including Bromptons, Ingles and Hayday and Amberviolins), Tim decided to set up Tim Wright Fine Violins to use his expertise to help string players of all backgrounds.  Tim is also a trustee of the charity Ponte Cultura, dedicated to widening access to classical music.
