About Helen Michetschläger

About the viola
The viola was made in 1985 and is modelled after the instruments of Nicolò Amati.
The viola has a two piece back of matching finely-flamed maple, the figuration descending slightly from the centre joint. The front is two pieces of spruce and the varnish is a rich red colour, laid over a lighter golden ground.
The viola has a length of back of 405 mm or 15 and 15/16th inches.
How does it sound?
Absolutely brilliant! This is an instrument with a huge voice and a lively, responsive character. The fundamental tone is beguiling, however the viola is capable of assuming a large variety of different characters. Reliable and yet able to change colour very quickly, this is a really fantastic instrument to play.
Condition
The viola is in excellent original condition.
