Five string cello by Theo Parmakis, Sheffield, 2021
About Theo Parmakis
Theo Parmakis is a Sheffield based luthier who trained at the Newark School of Violin Making, graduating in 2020. He has a busy workshop in the city, combining new making with restoration.
About the cello
This instrument was made in Sheffield in 2021. It is modelled after the famous 5 string Brothers Amati cello, the 'Amaryllis Fleming', made around 1600.
The cello has a two piece back of softly flamed maple with ribs and scroll to match. The front is two pieces of spruce and the varnish is a soft golden-amber.
Like the original, it is a little smaller than full size, with a length of back of 703 mm.
How does it sound?
This instrument has a prompt and crisp response on top, and a gravelly robust C string. 5 string cellos are not something we sell a lot of, but we think this one is great!
Condition
The cello is in original mint condition.
