About this violin
This violin was made in 2022 and is modelled after the instruments of the Parma maker Felix Mori Costa.
The violin has a one piece back of very attractive slab-cut maple. The ribs are quarter-sawn maple of medium flame and the scroll is of plainer wood. The front is two pieces of straight-grained spruce which widens significantly towards the flanks. The varnish is stunning: a translucent golden amber colour laid over a lighter golden ground.
The violin has a length of back of 355 mm.
How does it sound?
This is a really meaty instrument which gets stuck right in! The violin will take a great deal of bow pressure without the sound spoiling. Mori Costa was a relatively rustic maker: Ralph has really captured something of the free spirit of the original instruments without sacrificing the violin’s ability to be refined when needed. Seriously fun to play!
Condition
The violin is in original mint condition.
