Cello by Joseph Anthony Chanot, London, 1902
About Joseph Anthony Chanot
The Chanot family is one of the great violin making dynasties, springing from fairly humble beginnings in Mirecourt and becoming a multi-generational powerhouse in Paris, London, and Manchester.
Joseph Anthony was born in London in 1865, the youngest son of Georges Chanot II. He was active as both a dealer and a luthier, making a great many instruments and bows over the course of his career. Joseph Anthony died in 1936 and the Chanot shop on Wardour Street was continued by his sons.
