Violin made in Mirecourt, circa 1890

About Beare and Son

In the violin world, the name Beare is synonymous with high quality: most of the world’s top violins have been through the Beare’s workshop at some point in history! The firm imported violins from various French and German workshops which went through a rigorous quality control process before being offered for sale at this prestigious shop.

About the violin

This violin was made in Mirecourt for Beare & Son of London around 1890 and is modelled after the instruments of Stradivari.

The violin has a two piece back of quarter sawn maple, the figuration descending from the centre joint. The ribs and scroll are of similar wood and the front is two pieces of fine grained spruce, widening towards the flanks. The varnish is a rich reddish brown, laid over a lighter golden ground.

The violin has a length of back of 360 mm.

How does it sound?

This violin has a very attractive dark voice: if it were a human it would definitely be an alto! It projects very well and is great fun to play.

Condition

The violin is in very good condition.
