Viola bow by Vanderson Schaeffer, Brazil

About Vanderson Schaeffer

Vanderson Schaeffer learnt bow making with his father, the bow maker and pernambuco conservationist Floriano Schaeffer. He also completed a brief period of study with Pierre Guillaume of Brussels. Schaeffer works for the large Brazilian firm Arcos Brasil on their finest quality Special Edition bows.

About the bow

The bow weighs 70 grams and the mounts are of silver and ebony. The octagonal stick measures 729 mm in length and is made of extremely high-quality pernambuco.

How does it play?

This bow is plenty strong enough, sits well in the string and behaves well off the string too. A textbook good bow! Tonally, the bow works well with most instruments, bringing out the character in each. It would make a particularly good match for a less resonant instrument.

Condition

The bow is in excellent condition. It is stamped V. Schaeffer Brasil above the frog on the player side.
