About Bing Chen

Bing is a hugely talented artist who initially worked as a ceramic sculptor in her native China before moving to Scotland to study at the Glasgow School of Art. She graduated with both a BA Hons in Sculpture & Environmental Art and a Masters in Fine Art and has now turned her creative attention to violin making, studying with the Glasgow maker Linus Andersson.

About the violin

This violin was made in Glasgow in 2022 and is modelled after the instruments of Stradivari.

The violin has a two piece back of relatively plain maple with ribs and scroll to match. The front is two pieces of fairly wide-grained spruce and the varnish is golden-amber in colour.

The violin has a length of back of 355 mm.

How does it sound?

This is an enormously successful first violin! The violin has a big, confident character and projects with great ease. It's very even and speaks easily, giving the player the freedom to explore its very full range of colours.

Condition

The violin is in original mint condition.
