Violin by Caroline Campbell, Fife, 2018

About Caroline Campbell

Caroline is a violin maker based in Fife who is extremely passionate about her craft. She trained in Newark-on-Trent and then returned to Fife to set up her own workshop. Her instruments are very popular with musicians for their quality of sound: Caroline is meticulous about every aspect of violin making but most especially about this feature.

We are delighted to have three instruments by Caroline currently for sale.

About the violin

The violin was made in 2018 and is Caroline´s 29th violin, labelled `Daphne´. It is modelled after the Sainton Guarneri `del Gesù violin, made in Cremona in 1744.

It has a two piece back of moderately-flamed maple, the flame descending from the centre joint. The front is two pieces of medium-grained spruce. The varnish is golden-amber in colour and the length of back is 354 mm.

How does it sound?

This violin is smooth and silky yet also big and confident. It has that great combination of depth, power and sweetness that ideally all instruments would have! Even across the strings, this violin is a great pleasure to play.

Condition

The violin is in original mint condition.
