This violin bow was made in Markneukirchen, a small town in the Saxony region of Germany famous for its great number of violin making workshops. The town was home to a great many fine bow making families at this time, including the Knopf and Pfretzschner dynasties.

The town remains active as a centre of violin making today, with over 100 different instrument workshops and a charming museum dedicated to its extraordinary history.

About the violin bow

This bow was made in Markneukirchen around 1920.

The round stick measures 730 mm in length. The mounts are of silver and ebony.

The bow weighs 60 grams.

How does it play?

This bow has a particularly smooth quality. It's a great bow for an advancing student in that there's nothing unusual about it: the strength, tone, weight and length are all just right!

Condition

The stick is in very good condition and the frog has one repaired crack.
