Alexander Smilie is one of the most well-known and celebrated of the Glasgow luthiers. His instruments are much sought-after by the professional string players of Scotland and are gaining wider recognition, as well they should. As is typical for this maker, the violin produces a dark, rich sound with ease. With the exception of one repaired crack on the front, the violin is an excellent state of preservation and retains all of its original varnish. Made in 1891, the length of back is 356mm.
