Viola by Renato Superti, Cremona, 2015
About Renato Superti Renato Superti instruments are made in Vescovato, just outside of Cremona.
About this violaThis viola was made in Cremona in 2015 and is modelled after the 1672 'Mahler' Stradivari, the earliest known of his violas.
The viola has a one piece back of medium-flamed spruce. The ribs and scroll are also of figured maple. The front is two pieces of wide-grained spruce and the varnish is reddish-amber in colour.
The viola has a length of back of 16 and a quarter inches or 413 mm.
How does it sound? This viola has a wonderful singing quality throughout its range. Though it is even in its volume and projection, I am particularly drawn to the rich lower two strings. They have a great resonance and warmth to them which is responsive and nutty. All round a great instrument to play!
ConditionThe viola is in excellent original condition.
CertificationThe viola comes with the 2019 certificate of Stefano Conia.
