About this viola

This viola was made in Cremona in 2015 and is modelled after the 1672 'Mahler' Stradivari, the earliest known of his violas.

The viola has a one piece back of medium-flamed spruce. The ribs and scroll are also of figured maple. The front is two pieces of wide-grained spruce and the varnish is reddish-amber in colour.

The viola has a length of back of 16 and a quarter inches or 413 mm.

How does it sound?

This viola has a wonderful singing quality throughout its range. Though it is even in its volume and projection, I am particularly drawn to the rich lower two strings. They have a great resonance and warmth to them which is responsive and nutty. All round a great instrument to play!

The viola is in excellent original condition.

The viola comes with the 2019 certificate of Stefano Conia.
